BRICKZ OUT ON R80K BAIL
Convicted Kwaito star, Brickz is out of prison after posting R80, 000 bail pending the appeal against his rape conviction.
On Friday, Magistrate John Baloyi of the Roodepoort Magistrates Court had granted the musician bail after being earlier granted leave to appeal his conviction.
Brickz whose real name is Sipho Ndlovu was handed a 15-year prison sentence last year after being found guilty of raping a relative. He continues to maintain his innocence.
It was revealed by Brickz‘s lawyer Piet Du Plessis that the amount was raised over the weekend and had been paid on Monday morning; giving the disgraced star a breath of freedom since he was sentenced in October.
It was further revealed by Brickz‘s producer Grey Mafumbu that the bail amount was posted by Step Ahead Productions because they believe in the innocence of their star artist.
“He is one of us and so we paid the bail. We were just waiting on some of the directors to sign off on the payment. Money doesn’t matter in this case. It is not that we support the negative things. It is about supporting Brickz,” Grey told TshisaLIVE.
Last month, Brickz had sought to convince the magistrate that he poses no flight risk if granted bail. He informed the court that he understand the concerns he could abscond and become a fugitive in another country, but those were far from his plans.
“I do not plan to be a fugitive because I work as a performing artist. I don’t see myself living outside of South Africa and looking over my shoulder. I’m willing to give myself to this matter and make sure this matter comes to an end,” he said at the time.
