As the global outrage continues over Swedish clothing giant, H&M’s latest racist advert giving a little black boy wearing a “coolest monkey in the wilderness” hoodie, some of South Africa’s celebrities have also displayed anger over the problem.
Even after H&M declared an apology and took down the said questionable advert, SA stars with Cassper Nyovest, Kwesta, Somizi, Minnie Dlamini, Stilo Magolide, Cause and many others have asked for the boycott of the fashion giant.
Cassper Nyovest for instance posted on Instagram:
“We used to be slaves, and now we are billionaires in the countries we were sold in. We did this with no assistant from the oppressor. Black people start at the bottom of the food chain and work their way up. Plus we do it with so many swags. WE ARE THE KINGS OF THE WORLD, AND WE ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! #BlackExcellence #BlackIsKing #BlackIsBeautiful”
Still Magolide wrote on Twitter:
“And you ni**as still shopping at the mall? #H&M is dead to me”
“YOU’LL NEVER FIND ME AT @hm!!!!! 😡😠😡😠😡😠😡😠😡😠😡😠😡😠😡”
Somizi added his take on Twitter:
“I’ve never been a fan of @hm since day one they launched in South Africa. First, they never had ppl of colour in their campaigns even when they came to Africa. Now, this. Let’s show them the power of monkey rand by not buying ish from them.”
Kwesta took the whole protest to a new level. He said:
“I, unfortunately, have some H&M clothing… that I’m burning in the morning,” he wrote on Monday evening.”
